5 tips to quickly improve your padel game

20 June 2026

Padel is as much about positioning and tactics as it is about power. Here are five concrete things you can start practicing right away.

1. Get your starting position right

Most beginners stand either too far from the net or too close to the baseline. Find a position where you can quickly reach both volleys and bounced balls.

2. Shorten your volley swing

Unlike tennis, the padel volley should be short and compact - it gives you better control and a smaller margin for error.

3. Move with your partner, not next to them

Moving as a pair is critical. When your partner steps forward, you follow. You should always move together as a single unit along the net.

4. Use the glass walls on purpose

The glass walls aren’t just an obstacle - learn the bounce angles so you can use them offensively instead of only defensively.

5. Pick gear that matches your level

A racket with the right balance makes a real difference for control and injury prevention, especially once you’re practicing a lot.
