How to choose a good padel club - what actually matters

26 June 2026

All padel courts look roughly the same from a distance, but construction differences affect how the ball bounces and how the court feels to play on. Here’s what actually separates a good court from a mediocre one.

Full glass vs. mesh

Most modern courts have walls made of tempered glass, typically 10-12mm thick. Glass gives a faster, more predictable bounce, which is what most players are used to and prefer.

Some courts have sections of the wall in metal mesh instead of glass, often in the upper portion. Mesh gives better ventilation and is more common on outdoor courts, but the ball bounces less predictably there, which can feel unfamiliar if you’re used to full glass.

Panoramic vs. post-corner courts

  • Panoramic courts have fully open corners with no posts, giving clear sightlines and a more modern feel.
  • Post-corner courts have steel posts in the corners holding up the glass. They play just as well, but the posts can occasionally be in the way on balls near the corners.

Both types are fully approved for match play - the difference is mostly aesthetic and rarely affects your game.

Indoor vs. outdoor

Indoor courts often use laminated glass (multiple glass layers bonded together) for extra safety, while outdoor courts use tempered glass that better withstands weather. Indoor courts give a consistent playing experience year-round, while outdoor courts can feel more natural but are weather-dependent - especially during Swedish winters.

Surface

Most courts use artificial turf with sand infill. Check how even and well-filled the sand layer is - uneven infill makes the ball bounce inconsistently and increases the risk of slipping. A club that maintains its surface well is often a sign the whole facility is kept in good shape.

Bottom line

Full glass, an even surface, and good lighting cover what matters most. Everything else - panoramic vs. post corners, the locker rooms, whether there’s a café - is nice to have but doesn’t affect the game itself.
